Juina Mining Corp. Acquires Juina Mining Co. Inc., Former De Beers Diamond Concession
RENO, Nev.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 15, 1997--Juina Mining Corp., a resource exploration/development company, announced the recent acquisition of Juina Mining Co. Inc. (JMC), a Nevada corporation located in Reno, Nev.
JMC became a wholly owned subsidiary of Juina Mining Corp. through a stock exchange agreement.
JMC holds the mineral and mining rights to approximately 1,000 hectares (2,471 acres). The "Property 1000" is located in the rich Aripuana-Juina Kimberlite Province in the state of Mato Grosso, Brazil. Nearly all of Brazil's diamond production comes from the state of Mato Grosso (approximately 70 percent) with the principal production originating in the Juina Kimberlite Region.
De Beers initially organized exploration in Juina in 1978 through its Brazilian company, Mineracao Itapena, S.A., which held most, if not all of the Juina District's mining rights. By 1982, Itapena identified three main areas of interest, reduced its vast land holdings, and began detailed evaluations of these areas. The Property 1000 is one of the three primary concessions.
Permission has been received from the state environmental agency (FEMA) to proceed with field work on the southern part of the Property 1000. There is evidence from indicator minerals found in surface deposits in this area that a kimberlite is very likely present. Drilling is beginning to sample the surface, test for gravels, and to locate the kimberlite.
Local garimperos (small scale miners) give numerous unconfirmed reports of an existing pipe on this part of the concession. Historically, the Property 1000 has produced many gem-quality stones, including a high percentage of pink diamonds.
MPH Consulting Limited, with headquarters in Toronto since 1967, and additional offices in Gaborone, Botswana, where it is managing large-diamond exploration programs for a number of clients, is supervising the project in Juina.
MPH has completed more than 2,500 projects in more than 70 countries with activities including resource appraisal, management and design of large-scale diamond exploration programs, ore reserve delineation, qualifying reports and full scale feasibility studies. MPH is truly an international broad-based mining, consulting organization with extensive experience in managing and designing large-scale exploration and mine-development projects.
Involvement with recent assignments such as a pre-feasibility $5 million (U.S.) evaluation project in Russia, management of a $4 million exploration program in Voisey's Bay Labrador, and a multi-million dollar evaluation and bulk sampling program of a diamondiferous kimberlite prospect in Lesotho has kept MPH on the leading edge of technological advancements in geotechnical data collection, management and interpretation. The company similarly has considerable experience in report qualifying for financial and securities institutions.
The phase one exploration and evaluation program is headed by Project Manager Sergio Amaro Aquino of MPH Consulting, Toronto. Aquino, a senior geologist, graduated with honors in his field. Over the past 19 years, Aquino has headed numerous exploration, evaluation and plant erection programs throughout South America, specializing in both gold and diamonds.
