Star Kimberlite Progress Report - Pq Drilling Begins
Jonathan Challis, President, is pleased to report that the NQ-size core drilling program on the Company’s 100 percent-owned Star kimberlite is now complete. Drill holes Star 014 and Star 015 were collared in the northwest quadrant of the grid in areas of lower magnetic susceptibility than that displayed by the prominent magnetic feature tested by drill hole 96-3. Star 014 was located 200 metres northwest of 96-3 and intersected multiple zones of kimberlite, the thickest of which measured 58.6 metres and 8.4 metres. Star 015 was located 200 metres southwest of 96-3 and intersected 83.5 metres of kimberlite.
This brings to 15, the number of NQ-size (1.875 inches diameter) drill holes completed in the current program and to 18, the total number of NQ holes completed on the Star kimberlite. All drill holes have intersected kimberlite and the outer boundaries of the Star have not yet been established.
A ground geophysical survey using resistivity methods is currently in progress and the results so far indicate that there is a stronger correlation between resistivity and kimberlite thickness than between magnetic susceptibility and kimberlite thickness. Once the survey is complete, the information will be used in conjunction with the drill hole data to calculate a preliminary resource estimate for the Star kimberlite.
Drilling to obtain a larger sample size for diamond recovery is also underway. PQ-size core drilling has commenced in the area where the NQ drilling intersected in excess of 100 metres of kimberlite. Up to five PQ-size (3.35 inches diameter) drill holes are planned.
Logging and splitting of the NQ core continues and samples are being bagged and shipped to two laboratories for caustic dissolution and diamond recovery. Results will be reported when they are received.
