Star Kimberlite Progress Report - First Pq Drill Hole Complete
Jonathan Challis, President, is pleased to report that the first large-diameter core drill hole (3.35 inches diameter) has been completed on the Company's 100 percent-owned Star kimberlite. Drill hole Star 016P was collared midway between Star 004 and Star 007, which both intersected in excess of 100 metres of kimberlite. The large-diameter hole intersected 134.6 metres of kimberlite, much of which was a medium to coarse-grained macrocrystic kimberlite. This is the thickest continuous kimberlite intersection encountered on the property to date. The core from Star 016P has been logged and small representative samples are being taken, after which, the core will be sent to an independent laboratory in Thunder Bay, Ontario for total diamond recovery by caustic fusion.
A total of approximately 1.5 tonnes of core samples, from the NQ-size delineation drill holes previously completed, have been shipped to this laboratory for treatment by caustic fusion and diamond recovery. Results are expected from this work within the next three to six weeks.
A total of 21 diamond drill holes (16 of which have been drilled this year) have now been completed on the Star kimberlite, all having intersected kimberlite. The depth of overburden encountered in these holes varied between 75.3 metres and 110 metres, with an average depth of 90 metres. The kimberlite sequence (including intra kimberlite sediments) varied in thickness from 30.5 metres to 145.1 metres (averaging 78 metres), whilst the thickness of the continuous kimberlite varied between 2.4 metres and 134.5 metres (average 60 metres). It is encouraging to note that the thickest intersections of kimberlite coincide with the thinnest overburden encountered on the property.
Further PQ drilling is planned on the Star kimberlite once the company has had the opportunity to review the results from the drilling program.
The Star kimberlite is located 60 km east of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan and is a diamond-bearing kimberlite covering a surface area measuring at least 2.0 km by 1.5 km.
