STAR KIMBERLITE PROJECT- LARGER SAMPLE TO BE TAKEN PRIOR TO BULK SAMPLE
Jonathan Challis, President, is pleased to report that following the completion of the NQ and PQ sized diamond drill program and in preparation for the extraction of a major bulk sample from the Star kimberlite, it has been decided to recover a sample of at least 100 tonnes of kimberlite by the use of a large diameter, reverse circulation drill. The total amount of split core (primarily NQ sized, 47 mm) that has been analysed to date by caustic fusion is approximately 4.6 tonnes. While this gives an indication of the diamond content of the kimberlite, it does not help to evaluate some of the other properties (mechanical and metallurgical) of the kimberlite that will need to be ascertained prior to finalizing the design of the bulk sample treatment plant necessary to process the larger quantity of material (approximately 25,000 tonnes) that will be required to determine the economic potential of the Star kimberlite.
This drill program will involve the drilling of at least one large diameter (24”), reverse circulation hole to recover between 100 and 130 tonnes of kimberlite sized between 1.25 mm and 6 cms. This hole will be located close to an existing core hole where it is known that the kimberlite is more than 200 metres in thickness. The drilling contract has been awarded to Layne Christensen of Calgary, Alberta and work on site commenced today. It is anticipated that the drilling will be completed prior to the end of October. The sample will be recovered into 1.5 tonne bags and will be shipped to an independent laboratory in Canada for analysis.
