STAR DIAMOND PROJECT - BULK SAMPLE PROGRESS REPORT
Kirsten Marcia, Exploration Manager, is pleased to report on the progress of the bulk sample program on the Company's Star Diamond Project, located in the Fort a la Corne area of central Saskatchewan. This program is designed to recover a parcel of at least 3,000 carats of diamonds to enable an accurate valuation of the stones. The program involves the sinking of a 4.5 metre diameter vertical shaft and horizontal drifting in kimberlite to recover up to 25,000 tonnes of kimberlite, which will be processed on site.
Thyssen Mining Construction of Canada Ltd. began sinking activities in early July when sufficient freezing of the ground was achieved. This freeze wall will ensure stable ground conditions as sinking proceeds through the overburden. The pre-sink phase commenced with 2 metres of initial excavation and the installation of the 14-foot (4.3 metre) diameter curb ring and steel form rings. Concrete supplied by Sterling Concrete & Hauling Ltd.'s on-site batch plant was then poured behind the forms for the shaft lining, which is repeated at the end of every 15 feet of excavation.
The shaft has been excavated and concrete lined down to 60 feet (18.2 metres), which completes the pre-sink phase of the project. This allows for the 3-stage Galloway sinking platform to be lowered in and the Cryderman clam mucker to be installed. All mucking and hoisting during the pre-sink phase was achieved with a temporary clam stand and a crane supplied by Saskatoon-based Eagle Crane. This crane is currently being replaced by the headframe, hoists and suspension that were delivered to site earlier this month. Sinking in overburden will continue down to approximately 100 metres, at which point sinking will carry on in kimberlite and sampling will begin.
In the upcoming weeks, the foundations for the Bateman modular diamond recovery plant will be formed and poured, along with continued shaft
sinking activity.
