STAR DIAMOND PROJECT
DIAMOND CONCENTRATES SHIPPED - SECOND LATERAL DRIFT COMMENCED
George H. Read, P. Geo., Senior Vice President Exploration is pleased to report that all aspects of the Star Diamond Project bulk sample program are advancing rapidly. Kimberlite batch processing continues and the initial batch of diamond concentrate has been shipped to the off-site, independent laboratory in Canada for final diamond recovery. The shaft has been sunk to near total depth and underground drilling ahead of the second lateral drift has been completed. The establishment of the second lateral drift has commenced at the 235 metre level.
To date, in excess of 2250 wet tonnes of kimberlite have been processed by the on-site DMS processing plant. The processing of the first kimberlite batch (shaft material from the 107 to 131 metre level) has been completed and the diamond concentrates have been shipped to and received by an independent, off-site laboratory using a secure shipping agent. The laboratory will retain all results until such time as the entire batch has been processed, the concentrate sorted, and the results checked. The plant is currently processing the second kimberlite batch (shaft material from 171 to 190 metres and the station at the 175 metre level). The diamond results of this kimberlite batch will be used to confirm the development of the 175 metre level. An additional 4600 tonnes of kimberlite is on surface in the secure kimberlite stockpile. Shore has successfully mined and processed a significant quantity of kimberlite during the conditions of a typical Saskatchewan winter. The onset of warmer weather will increase processing capabilities.
The shaft is currently at the 237 metre level and has been concrete lined to 225 metres. A station has been established at the 175 metre level, complete with power substation, water pumping facilities, concrete floor and a roof that has been stabilized with shotcrete, netting and rock bolts. Three horizontal holes were drilled to investigate the kimberlite ahead of this 175 metre lateral drift. In preparation for the establishment of the second lateral drift on the 235 metre level, a -60 degree angled hole was drilled from the 175 metre level to a depth of 93 metres to confirm the extent of kimberlite in an easterly direction. In addition, a horizontal hole was drilled due east from the bottom of the shaft. This hole terminated in kimberlite at 83 metres. The mining of the station on the 235 metre level has commenced. Once the station has been established (15 metres of drifting) the shaft will be sunk to a depth of 250 metres. The additional 15 metres in the shaft will provide space for the Galloway stage, below the 235 metre level. This will facilitate mucking of the lateral drift.
The Star Diamond Project is designed to recover a parcel of at least 3000 carats of diamonds to enable an accurate valuation of the stones. Up to 25,000 tonnes of kimberlite will be recovered from the shaft and drifts and processed on site to produce this diamond parcel.
