Shore Gold Inc. - More large diamonds in 405 carat parcel - On-site kimberlite processing complete

SASKATOON, SK, Feb. 8 /CNW/ - George H. Read, P. Geo., Senior Vice President Exploration, is pleased to announce the thirteenth set of diamond recoveries from the Star Kimberlite. The diamond recoveries to date total 3,497.47 carats from 24,548.35 dry tonnes processed. These results are for eleven kimberlite batches of a total of some 80 to 100 kimberlite batches that will be processed as part of the bulk sampling program on the Star Diamond Project, the aim of which is to recover a parcel of some 3,000 carats for valuation purposes. A total of 2,805 commercial sized diamonds (greater than 1.18 millimetre square mesh screen), collectively weighing 400.93 carats, has been recovered from the treatment of 2,553.73 dry tonnes of kimberlite. Seventy-four diamonds greater than one carat have been recovered and the four largest stones are: 5.66, 4.75, 4.32 and 4.28 carats, respectively. In addition, 277 diamonds (4.29 carats) were recovered down to 0.85 millimetre square mesh. The colour of 63 percent of these diamonds has been classified as white, with a further 11 percent classified as off-white.
These eleven kimberlite batches (of a total of 81 processed) have been mined from the Southeast drive (Batches 56, 57A, 57B, 60, 61, 62, 63 and 64) and the North drive (Batches 58, 59A and 59B) developed from the 235 metre shaft station. All of these kimberlite batches have been recovered from within the Early Joli Fou equivalent kimberlite. Results to date have shown that higher diamond grades are associated with the Early Joli Fou equivalent kimberlite than with the Late Joli Fou equivalent kimberlite. The relationships between these two kimberlite types are illustrated in cross sections available on the Shore Gold website: www.shoregold.com.
Batches 65, 66, 67, 68 69, 70, 71, 72, 73 and 74 (all from 235 metre level) have been processed on-site and the concentrates dispatched to the sorting laboratory for final diamond recovery. Results from these batches are pending. A total of 26,068.67 dry tonnes has been processed through the on-site DMS plant. All batches processed to date are classified as crater facies volcaniclastic kimberlites.

The four largest stones are: 5.66 (Batch 57A, Grey), 4.75 (Batch 62, White), 4.32 (Batch 59B, Yellow) and 4.28 (Batch 57B, White) carats, respectively. Twenty-seven diamonds exceed two carats and 74 diamonds exceed one carat, of which 44 are white, 10 are off-white, 12 are grey, 6 are brown and 2 are yellow. A total of 140 diamonds exceed 0.5 carat. Sixty-three percent of this diamond parcel is classified white in colour, with a further 11 percent classified as off-white. The diamond parcel includes 10 yellow, 9 pink, and 6 amber stones. Ninety-nine percent of the carat weight of this parcel occurs in diamonds greater than 1.18 millimetre square mesh.
Senior Vice President Exploration, George Read, states: "On-site kimberlite processing has been completed and a total of over 26,000 dry tonnes of kimberlite has been processed through the DMS plant and the concentrates shipped to SGS Lakefield Research in Ontario for final diamond recovery. It is estimated that the final diamond recovery at SGS Lakefield will result in some 600 to 700 carats (including the diamonds reported in this news release) over and above the 3,000 carat valuation parcel. The valuation of the 3,000 carat parcel is currently underway in Antwerp and the four independent groups of diamond valuators examining the parcel will provide Shore Gold with their diamond value estimates shortly after the valuations are completed. Shore is committed to inform its shareholders of the average 'run-of-mine' value for the bulk sample later in the month of February. Shore geologists are currently preparing the details of a prefeasibility study that will commence early in 2005. The prefeasibility study will include ground geophysics followed by core and large diameter drilling, a desktop engineering study and the commencement of an environmental baseline study."
The diamond recovery procedure includes on site processing of kimberlite through the modular dense media separator (DMS), after which DMS concentrates are batch fed through an X-ray Flow-sort. In order to ensure the recovery of low luminosity diamonds, the Flow-sort tailings are processed over a grease table. Flow-sort and grease table concentrates are transported by a secure carrier to SGS Lakefield Research for final diamond recovery. The SGS Lakefield Research process includes drying, screening, magnetic separation, manual sorting and diamond weighing and description. SGS Lakefield Research is accredited to the ISO/IEC 17025 standard by the Standards Council of Canada as a testing laboratory for specific tests.
