Copper-Silver-Gold-Porphyry Joint Venture Announced
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Vancouver, B.C. - War Eagle Mining Company Inc. (TSX Venture Exchange - WAR) April 20, 2004 - War Eagle Mining Company Inc and Strategic Metals Ltd. announce the formation of a 50-50 joint venture to explore the Antimony Mountain copper-silver-gold porphyry prospect. The Antimony Mountain prospect is located 65 km northeast of Dawson City and 25 km north of the former Brewery Creek gold mine in Yukon Territory. The prospect was recently acquired by staking and there are no underlying interests. The area lies within the 100 km wide, 500 km long Tintina Gold Belt that stretches from central Alaska, across Yukon to the Northwest Territories. The claims cover part of the Antimony Mountain pluton, that belongs to the Tombstone Intrusive Suite, which is associated with a number of major precious metal deposits including Fort Knox, True North and Pogo in Alaska and Brewery Creek, Dublin Gulch and Keno Hill in the Yukon.
The exploration target at the Antimony Mountain property is a 3.5 km long by 2 km wide area of moderately to strongly anomalous stream sediment and soil geochemical response. Typical anomalous values range between 60 and 549 ppm copper, 5 and 48 ppm silver, 50 and 285 ppb gold and 500 and 1500 ppm arsenic. Drill results from porphyry type mineralization in a nearby pluton showed that soil and rock at surface are strongly leached of mobile metals like copper, effectively masking the mineralization. The favourable host rocks, size and intensity of the geochemical anomalies and the presence of fringing veins suggest excellent potential for porphyry style mineralization in the core of the system.
Precious metal rich, alkalic porphyry mineralization is a particularly attractive exploration target. Well known western Canadian examples of this type are the Galore Creek deposit of SpectrumGold, the Red Chris deposit owned by bcMetals/American Bullion and the Mount Polley Mine operated by Imperial Metals.
Exploration plans for 2004 involve detailed geological mapping, prospecting and soil sampling coupled with drill site preparation starting in late June, followed by diamond drilling commencing in August.
