Drill Contract Awarded
The Company is pleased to announce that the drill contract for the Hoidas Lake rare earth project has been awarded to Major Midwest Drilling. Personnel and equipment are expected on site within 10 days.
The Hoidas Lake property is located 60 km northeast of Uranium City, in northern Saskatchewan, and hosts at least 15 rare earth showings over a 6-mile strike-length, along what is interpreted to be a major fault structure. Trenching carried out in the fall of 1999, over one of the showings, exposed 3 zones of mineralization over a 400-metre strike-length, including the Main Zone. Assay results from the trench samples confirmed the presence of significant rare earth mineralization. The Main Zone samples averaged 2.4 percent total rare earth oxides over a width of 7.1 metres, including a central sheared unit averaging 4.9 percent total rare earth oxides over 3.2 metres. Individual trench samples assayed as high as 20.3 percent total rare earth oxides.
The initial phase of drilling will focus on the Main Zone to test the continuity and grade of mineralization along strike and at depth. At the same time, ground geophysics will be carried out over several of the showings and additional drill targets selected.
The rare earths, also known as lanthanides, encompass 17 different elements with unique physical and chemical properties. They are processed into high-value materials important in many high-technology applications. These include computer components, wired and wireless communications, and alternate energy technologies such as rechargeable batteries and fuel cells.
The Company is earning a 70% interest in the Hoidas Lake property from Daren Industries Ltd. (CDNX:DIL).
Great Western Gold Corp. is proud to be a Canadian company exploring for diamonds and rare earth elements in the province of Saskatchewan.
