Drilling Starts At Hoidas
The Company is pleased to announce that the first phase of drilling is now underway at the Hoidas Lake rare earth project in northern Saskatchewan.
A minimum of 1,000 metres of NQ-size core drilling (1.875 inches in diameter) is planned for the first phase of the work program. Approximately 20 holes will be drilled into the Main Zone to test the known mineralized structure for continuity along strike and at depth. The core will be logged, split and sampled on-site and the samples sent to the Saskatchewan Research Council laboratory in Saskatoon for assay.
A ground geophysical survey is also in progress to determine if geophysics can be used to locate and trace mineralized structures on the property.
Additional drilling will be carried out based on the results of the first phase drilling and the geophysical survey, and may include deeper drilling on the Main Zone and testing other showings on the property.
The Main Zone is one of 15 known rare earth showings on the property and the only showing that has seen recent work. Previous trench sampling over a 400 metre strike-length exposed a central sheared unit in the Main Zone averaging 4.9 percent total rare earth oxides over 3.2 metres with individual assays as high as 20.3 percent and mineralized widths to 13 metres.
Management believes that, although the project is still at an early stage in delineating the extent of mineralization, Hoidas has the potential to become one of the world’s major rare earth discoveries.
The rare earths, also known as lanthanides, are processed into high-value compounds and metals used in many high-technology applications including permanent magnets, rechargeable batteries and fuel cells. Rare earths are a $600 million industry in North America and currently manufacturers must import over 75% of their supply.
The Company is earning a 70% interest in the Hoidas Lake property from Daren Industries Ltd. (CDNX:DIL).
Great Western Gold Corp. is proud to be a Canadian company exploring for diamonds and rare earth elements in the province of Saskatchewan.
