Great Western Minerals Group Ltd. Drilling Underway at Hoidas Engineering Firm Contracted
10:44 EDT Wednesday, August 31, 2005
SASKATOON, SASKATCHEWAN--(CCNMatthews - Aug. 31, 2005) - Great Western Minerals Group Ltd. (TSX VENTURE:GWG) (OTCBB:GWMGF):
Gary Billingsley, President, reports that drilling has commenced at the Hoidas Lake rare earth project in northern Saskatchewan. Approximately 1,000 metres of drilling is planned for the main JAK Zone and the parallel JAK 2 Zone. The goal of the drilling is to achieve tighter drill hole spacing in specific areas of both mineralized zones, but in particular the JAK 2 Zone. Some drilling will also be completed to generate hydrogeological data for environmental management purposes.
The Company is also pleased to report that Wardrop Engineering Inc. has been engaged to complete a Resource Model and Technical Report compliant with National Instrument 43-101. Compilation of the assay data from the 54 drill holes completed to date, is nearing completion and will form the basis of the Wardrop report.
The Hoidas Lake mineralization is enriched in cerium, lanthanum and neodymium-rare earth elements critical to the rechargeable battery and permanent magnet motor technologies used in hybrid and electric vehicles. Considering that there is currently no North American source of rare earth elements, and with sales of hybrid vehicles in North America projected to rise dramatically over the next five years and beyond, the Company feels that the timing is ideal for the development of a North American source of rare earth elements.
Gary L. Billingsley, C.A., P.Eng., P.Geo.
President
