Wednesday May 10, 2:15 pm ET
SASKATOON, SASKATCHEWAN--(MARKET WIRE)--May 10, 2006 -- Great Western Minerals Group Ltd. (TSX VENTURE:GWG.V - News) (Other OTC:GWMGF.PK - News): The Board of Directors of Great Western Minerals Group Ltd. (the "Company") is very pleased to announce that Walter T. Benecki (www.waltbenecki.com) has agreed to accept nomination as a director of the Company at the Annual General Meeting in June 2006.
Mr. Benecki is currently a consultant to the magnetics industry and previously served as President of the Magnetic Materials Producers Association (now The International Magnetics Association). Walt began his career as a Development Engineer with RCA, after graduating from Pennsylvania State University with a Masters of Science degree in Ceramic Engineering. He then spent 10 years with Carborundum Company in various positions including Market Research Manager and Manager, New Product Development. Next Walt joined General Electric Company starting as Manager, Strategic Planning and worked in several departments over a 10 year period. In 1989, Walt was appointed President of Arnold Engineering, a magnetic materials and components company headquartered in the US. By 2000, after several strategic acquisitions, Walt had grown the company from $50 million in sales into Group Arnold with $140 million in annual sales. Walt also sits on the board of the Electric Motor Education and Research Foundation and The Bunting Magnetics Company.
Much of Walt's experience has been in working with technologies that rely on the rare earth elements to function, and he is intimately familiar with the types of value-added rare earth products that are critical to those technologies. As Great Western Minerals Group Ltd. advances its 100%-owned Hoidas Lake rare earth project towards feasibility, identifying specific markets and the specific rare earth products for those markets will be a key activity, and the Company considers itself extremely fortunate to be able to access someone with Walt's experience and capabilities to assist us in that process. Walt will be consulting directly to Great Western Technologies Inc. on a marketing study that will be used in the Hoidas Lake final feasibility study.
Great Western Minerals Group Ltd. is a Saskatchewan-based mineral exploration and development company focused on the development of the Hoidas Lake rare earth project in northern Saskatchewan, as well as advancing two copper/gold projects in the southwestern US. The company's wholly-owned subsidiary, Great Western Technologies Inc., owns and operates manufacturing facilities in Troy, Michigan, currently producing advanced materials for the alternate energy market. Great Western Diamonds Corp. (TSXV-"GWD") is the company's 38%-owned subsidiary exploring and developing diamond-bearing kimberlites in Saskatchewan.
