Hoidas Lake drill results

SASKATOON, SK, July 27 /CNW Telbec/ - GREAT WESTERN MINERALS GROUP LTD. (TSX-V: GWG - News) The Company reports that it has received all the results from the winter 2005/2006 drill program on its 100%-owned Hoidas Lake rare earth project in northern Saskatchewan. Over 700 samples, from 22 core drill holes totaling 2,233 metres, were submitted to the Saskatchewan Research Council in Saskatoon for assay. Each sample is assayed for 37 individual elements including the 15 rare earth elements.
As recommended in the Resource Model and Technical Report, compliant with National Instrument 43-101, prepared by Wardrop Engineering Inc. (see the March 28, 2006 news release), the latest drilling was concentrated in the northern portion of the JAK Zone as identified in previous drilling. This portion of the JAK Zone covers 325 metres of strike length, with the mineralized veins exhibiting excellent widths and grade to depths of 125 metres below surface.
The JAK Zone, one of 30 known rare earth showings along a 10 km strike- length, is represented by multiple parallel and sub-parallel rare earth- mineralized veins within a major fault structure. Each drill hole, all drilled at an angle to the west, intersected one or more of the mineralized veins. The following table reports the assay results for the vein intersections from the latest 15 drill holes on the JAK Zone:

The assay results from this drill program have been provided to Wardrop Engineering and an updated resource estimate is being prepared. John G. Pearson, MSc., P.Geo., is the Qualified Person on the project and VP Exploration for the Company.
"We are extremely pleased with the results of this drilling," says Jim Engdahl, President, "As we tighten some of the drill spacing and move deeper into the deposit, keeping in mind we are still very shallow at under 200 metres depth with the drilling, we are starting to see an increase in the number of vein intersections greater than 4 or 5 metres in width and in the number of complete intersections grading over 3% TREO, with wide higher grade sections, within the veins, of 5% and 6% TREO. This is very encouraging for the ultimate economic potential of the project."
The remaining 7 drill holes tested ground geophysical anomalies located approximately 500 metres northwest of the JAK Zone. The drilling confirmed a broad fault structure hosting multiple narrow veins of rare earth mineralization assaying from less than 1% TREO to 3.8% TREO. More drilling is required to determine the economic potential of these mineralized zones.
The Wardrop Resource Model and Technical Report, referenced above, and using results from the first 70 core drill holes, recommended proceeding to the prefeasibility stage of development. This recommendation was based on a resource of 1.365 million tonnes (in all resource categories) grading 2.59% TREO. Company management fully expects the above drill results to reinforce that recommendation.
Great Western Minerals Group and its subsidiary, Great Western Technologies Inc., are pursuing a "mines to market" strategy in developing the Hoidas Lake rare earth project, with the goal of maximizing the value of the final rare earth and rare earth-related products being sold.
