VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 15, 1997-- Consolidated Pine Channel Gold Corp. (VSE KPG.) Mr. Dale W. Hoffman, President of Consolidated Pine Channel Gold Corp. (the "Company"), is pleased to provide a progress report on the Currie Lake nickel project in northern Saskatchewan, where United Carina Resources Corp. (V-UCA) is currently earning a 50 percent interest in the property in an agreement with the Company.
Beep mat prospecting has located a number of new impressive nickel showings. These showings are examples of magmatic copper-nickel-cobalt sulphide mineralization deposited at the base of a layered anorthosite-norite-pyroxenite intrusion. The nickel occurrences are spread over a prospective strike length of 27 kilometers.
Assays from chip sampling have been received from the two most significant showings. Trenching on the first showing returned values of 1.52 percent nickel and 0.28 percent copper over a width of 10 meters. Within this zone values of up to 4.1 percent nickel, 0.48 percent copper and 0.1 percent cobalt were detected. Trenching on showing number 2, which is located 4700 meters west of showing number 1, returned values of 0.17 percent nickel and 0.27 percent copper over a width of 3 meters. Values of up to 0.34 percent nickel and 0.72 percent copper were detected within the zone. In addition, grab samples from other showings have assayed up to 0.9 percent nickel.
These new showings are located west of previously known mineralization located in the 1950's. Previous operators subjected this mineralization to magnetic surveys, trenching and diamond drilling. The work outlined three zones of nickel-copper mineralization 135 meters long in noritic rocks. The most encouraging results from this work were drill intersections of 1.37 percent nickel and 0.25 percent copper over 5.6 meters, 2.11 percent nickel over 4.3 meters and 2.44 percent nickel over 2.1 meters. Trenching and drilling returned consistent grades of 0.70-1.0 percent nickel over widths of 7 meters.
The Company is very encouraged with the initial results from the Currie Lake property. The property has not been subjected to modern geophysical methods and previous operators did not analyze the samples for cobalt or platinum group metals. Plans are being formulated for a program of geophysics and diamond drilling to test the high potential of the property. -0-
