8/10/2004 : Cohen enters the Lucas Oil Nationals with momentum finally swinging her way
BRAINERD, pre-race report: NHRA POWERade Pro Stock Bike competitor Connie Cohen and her husband Marc finally saw all their years of hard work, determination and patience pay off at the most recent event on the tour, the FRAM-Autolite NHRA Nationals. Cohen qualified the CMKXtreme Machine Pro Stock Suzuki for her first career NHRA national event after over 40 starts, dating back to the 1998 season. Despite losing to eventual race winner Angelle Savoie in the first round, Cohen was thrilled to have qualified in just her fourth race since she started receiving support from CMKXtreme Machine Racing. "We still have a long way to go but it was so wonderful to get the bike into the show," said Cohen following the Sonoma event. "With the support of CMKX we were able to compete on the NHRA western swing for the first time and I think we did pretty well. We just missed the field in Denver by three-thousandths of a second so we knew we were close and it wouldn't be long before we finally qualified. It was a thrill to be part of the pre-race ceremonies and race Angelle in the first round. With the help of CMKXtreme Machine Racing we plan to be around for a lot more racing on Sunday's in the future." Cohen has been racing motorcycles for almost a decade. She was the first woman to earn a national ranking on the AHDRA circuit in 1998. Cohen's best NHRA showing before Sonoma came when she qualified a Harley-Davidson for the special non-points earning Winston Showdown event at Bristol, Tenn., in 2000.
