11/16/2004 : Cohen races to her quickest run of the season despite missing the field in Pomona
POMONA, qualifying: CMKXtreme Pro Stock Bike rider Connie Cohen made her quickest run of the season but it just wasn't enough to qualify for the 40th annul Auto Club of Southern California NHRA Finals.
Cohen made her first trip down the Pomona Raceway quarter-mile with a 7.381 at 180.55 mph to finish the first session in the No. 17 position, just outside the 16-bike elimination field that will race on Sunday. Crew chief Marc Cohen had three more chances to find the performance to qualify Cohen for the show and the team went right to work on the CMKXtreme Suzuki.
The CMKXtreme Pro Stock Bike improved to a 7.353 at 177.56 mph on Cohen's Friday run, The Connecticut resident fell to the 21st position with two qualifying attempts on Saturday to make the 16-bike field for Sunday's eliminations.
Cohen made her quickest run of the season with a 7.269 at 182.55 mph during Saturday's first qualifying session. Marc Cohen's mechanical magic improved the performance of the CMKXtreme Suzuki by almost a tenth of a second on the run. Cohen moved up to the No. 18 position with one chance remaining to qualify for Sunday's eliminations field.
Cohen slowed on her final qualifying attempt to a 7.42 and unfortunately missed the 16-bike field, finishing in the No. 19th position. Undaunted, Cohen was upbeat following qualifying.
"We're very pleased with our performance despite not qualifying," said Cohen. "Marc has been improving the performance of the CMKXtreme Suzuki on almost every run and we made our quickest run of the season today. With a new bike and the return of CMKXtreme as our major sponsor, we plan on having a very successful season in 2005. We want to make Urban Casavant and all of the CMKX shareholders proud of our performance next year and we'll be working overtime during the winter in preparation for a good season in 2005.
