ASA Speed Truck Challenge Renewed for 2005 Written by: American Speed Association Daytona Beach, Fla. – 12/15/2004 The ASA Speed Truck Challenge presented by CMKXtreme.com, one of the West Coast’s most popular touring series, has renewed its contract with newly formed Racing Speed Associates, LLC, and its ASA Racing Member Track program.
“I am very pleased that the ASA Speed Truck Challenge will play a key part of the program for another year,” said Dennis Huth, RSA president. “Since joining the ASA Racing Member Track program they have had so many great things happen, including a new series sponsorship and an outstanding television package. We are going to try and work with this momentum and help to make 2005 even greater.”<br> The ASA Speed Truck Challenge uses a full-tube chassis with a 330hp sealed V8 spec engine. The trucks have a 2-speed direct drive transmission with a clutch pedal dump valve coupled to an aluminum quick-change rear end. The trucks sport exact replica fiberglass bodies of the Chevrolet S-10, GMC Sonoma, Dodge Dakota, Ford Ranger, Toyota Tacoma and the Nissan Frontier. Speeds can reach up to 150mph at some of the larger tracks.
In 2004, the series champion was Lee Hatch who won 12 of the 16 races contested. With the championship, Hatch became the first driver to win back-to-back championships. In 2005, the series will race a 14-event schedule in California, Arizona and Nevada on tracks ranging in size from a quarter-mile oval to a 2.6-mile road course.
