All three CMKX Racing teams will compete at the same event for the first time this season at the 36th annual NHRA Mac Tools Gatornationals in Gainesville, Florida, March 17-20. CMKX teammates Jeff Arend, Tony Bartone and Connie Cohen will come together for the first NHRA national event held on the east coast this season.
Historic Gainesville Raceway is the track where CMKXtreme Machine Funny Car pilot Jeff Arend made his Funny Car debut in 1995, driving for his current crew chief, veteran Paul Smith. The infamous Gainesville quarter-mile is also home track for Smith, who runs his drag racing school in Boynton Beach, about four an a half hours south of the facility.
The home track feel at Gainesville Raceway also extends to Tony Bartone, driver of the Jim Dunn Racing/Got CMKX?/Lucas Oil Funny Car. Bartone, the 1996 NHRA Alcohol Funny Car champion, is a New York native who now resides in Boca Raton, just north of Fort Lauderdale. Bartone won the Gatornationals in Alcohol Funny car in 1996 and always poses a threat with legendary Jim Dunn handling the tuning chores.
CMKXtreme Pro Stock Motorcycle rider Connie Cohen will be making her 2005 debut in Gainesville as the class revs up for their first of 15 races this season. Cohen will be riding a brand new Suzuki at the Gatornationals, with her husband Marc making the tuning calls. The Connecticut couple is eager to leave the snow at home behind and begin their first full season with support from a major sponsor.
The CMKX teammates will continue their tour of hospitals in Gainesville. They will join members of the GM Racing team on a trip to Shands Hospital on Thursday, March 17, where they will visit patients, sign autographs and hand out CMKX merchandise.
With all three teams in competition at the Gatornationals, CMKX Diamonds CEO and current Chairman of the Board, Urban Casavant, is excited about seeing his racing team shine in 2005. “Jeff Arend, Tony Bartone and Connie Cohen do an outstanding job representing CMKX and we are thrilled at the chance to see them all race together in Gainesville.”
