GAINESVILLE, Saturday: Tony Bartone’s good fortune at Gainesville Raceway continued on Saturday in the Jim Dunn Racing/Got CMKX?/Lucas Oil Funny Car. Bartone qualified for the 36th annual NHRA Mac Tool Gatornationals, an event he has won in the past in both Alcohol Funny Car and Alcohol dragster.
Bartone and the Jim Dunn Racing/Got CMKX?/Lucas Oil Funny Car surprised everyone at the Gatornationals by qualifying in the No. 1 spot during the first qualifying session with a safe 4.926 at 315.90 mph. The Got CMKX?/Lucas Oil Monte Carlo suffered a fire bottle problem in the staging lanes prior to their second run Friday and they were forced to miss the session. Bartone ended the day qualified in a respectable fifth place.
The second day of professional qualifying at the Gatornationals was dryer and a little warmer at Gainesville Raceway. The Got CMKX?/Lucas Oil car was unable to improve on their opening run but the team made the show in the No. 13 position and will race Del Worsham in the opening round of eliminations on Sunday.
“We’re very excited to get both CMKX Racing Funny Cars in the show here in Gainesville,” said Bartone. “We are quickly getting a consistent handle on the Got CMKX/?Lucas Oil car and it would be a wonderful gift for Urban Casavant for both cars to reach the final round.”<br>
