HOUSTON, qualifying: CMKXtreme Machine Pro Stock Motorcycle rider Connie Cohen had her Suzuki running with consistency at the 18 annual NHRA O’Reilly Spring Nationals. Unfortunately, Cohen fell just short of making the field for Sunday’s eliminations despite her riding efforts and the hard working performance from husband and crew chief, Marc.
Cohen was busy prior to the beginning of professional qualifying Friday afternoon. The rider of the CMKXtreme Suzuki began her weekend visiting the San Jacinto Methodist Hospital in Baytown with CMKX teammates, Jeff Arend and Tony Bartone. Later in the day, Cohen spent time entertaining children in her pit area from the Hope Village Foundation for Retarded Children, out of Friendswood, Texas.
Once qualifying began Cohen rolled to 7.234 at 180.40 mph to finish the first session in the No. 12 position. She returned for her second attempt Friday evening and remained consistent with a 7.248 at 182.48 mph, but fell 10 spots to the 17th position. Cohen would have two more chances on Saturday to qualify for Sunday’s 16-bike eliminations.
The weather was warm and beautiful for Saturday’s racing at the Spring Nationals. On her third qualifying attempt, Cohen blasted a 7.212 at 184.32 mph in heat of the day, but it still left her outside the field in the No. 18 position. On her final qualifying run, Cohen slowed slightly to a 7.262 at 183.24 mph and finished qualifying in the No. 18 position.
“The CMKXtreme Pro Stock Bike is running like a 7.20 bracket bike,” said Cohen following qualifying. “Certainly we would have loved to qualify here at Houston but our Suzuki is running very consistent. We’ll continue to concentrate and work hard on getting the bike to run quicker so we can start qualifying consistently.”
