CHICAGO, pre-race: CMKXtreme Pro Stock motorcycle rider, Connie Cohen, will be appearing this weekend at the 8th annual CARQUEST Auto Parts NHRA Nationals just outside of Chicago in Joliet, Ill. Cohen will be attempting to make her second start after a top-end incident in the shut-down area at Atlanta Dragway on May 13, in which she received minor injuries.
Cohen was forced to exit her speeding motorcycle at the completion of a qualifying run after a mechanical malfunction forced her to lay the bike on its side at a high rate of speed. Cohen was able to walk away form the incident, but she was still taken by helicopter to a local care center, where she was treated for a broken left toe.
Cohen made one run at the next event in Columbus, Ohio but withdrew from competition so she could fully concentrate on recovering in time for the Chicago race. The gutsy Detroit native will attempt to race the CMKXtreme bike in Chicago, but she will be subject to a doctor's clearance prior to the start of qualifying.
"I feel fine and I'm very anxious to start racing again," said Connie. "My husband, Marc, has been doing a fantastic job in repairing the bike and I feel confident that we'll be able to field a competitive ride when we return to Chicago."
