Bartone goes out early despite career-best numbers
ENGLISHTOWN, post-race: During the 36th annual K & N Filters NHRA SuperNationals, legendary crew chief Jim Dunn gave Bartone plenty of power for his first round encounter with Del Worsham. Both cars roared down the Englishtown quarter-mile side by side with Worsham just nipping Bartone for the win. Bartone made the quickest run of his career, a 4.822 at 319.37 mph, losing by only .033-seconds to Worsham's slower 4.824 at 321.19 mph.
Bartone qualified in the No. 13 spot with a best of 4.861 at 314.46 mph, just seven-hundredths of a second behind the No. 1 qualifier in the super tight flopper field. The Got CMKX?/Lucas Oil Funny Car also made super consistent qualifying runs of 4.88, 4.89 and 4.90.
"Jim Dunn and the crew of the Got CMKX?/Lucas Oil Funny Car gave me a great race car this weekend," said Bartone following his first round race. "It was a great weekend for the Got CMKX?/Lucas Oil team and I'm proud of how well the car is performing. I'm really looking forward to racing in St. Louis next weekend."
