Urban Casavant’s support of the Jim Dunn Racing Funny Car team through his CMKX/Casavant Mining sponsorship will continue throughout at least the balance of the 2005 NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series and, according to team business manager Jon Dunn, is not affected by Casavant’s recent decision to no longer support Jeff Arend’s Paul Smith-led Funny Car team.
“I respect Paul and Jeff and don’t feel that it’s appropriate to comment on their situation,” said Dunn. “What I do want to make clear is that the business decision to no longer sponsor that car has nothing to do with the relationship of Jim Dunn Racing and Urban Casavant. It was never in jeopardy. Urban loves what we do for him and we love what he does for us. As you can read in our pre-race report for the Seattle event, there are some nice quotes in there from Urban Casavant and my dad about the strength of the partnership. Urban was very insistent that we put those quotes into that release so there would be no question about his dedication to our team.”
In fact, the Tony Bartone-driven Jim Dunn Racing/Got CMKX?/Lucas Oil Funny Car will celebrate its one-year anniversary with CMKX at the upcoming CARQUEST Auto Parts NHRA Nationals and Dunn notes that Casavant has expressed interest in continuing the relationship beyond this season
“The development of Jim Dunn Racing starting in the 2005 season has been obvious with the new colors, the new Monte Carlo bodies, the hospitality centers we have at every race, and our continuingly improved performance.
“It’s important for us to get this message out not only for all of our associate sponsors, but for our fans and the LURKERs attending the races to see us in our hospitality center. Our relationship with Urban and CMKX is rock-solid.”
