Bartone advances to the quarterfinals in Brainerd
BRAINERD, post-race: Tony Bartone, driver of the Jim Dunn Racing/Got CMKX?/Lucas Oil Funny Car, enjoyed another strong showing this weekend at the 24th annual Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals at Minnesota's Brainerd International Raceway. Bartone advanced to the quarterfinals and moved up to 13th in the POWERade point standings.
The weather on race day featured nearly cloudless skies and the warmest temperatures of the weekend. Bartone entered Sunday's eliminations from the No. 12 qualifying position on the strength of his 4.843 at 312.06 mph.
Bartone was in the right lane during his first round race. The former NHRA Alcohol Funny Car world champion left the starting line first and the Got CMKX?/Lucas Oil car took the victory with a 4.957 at 315.93 mph. With the win, Bartone advanced passed the first round for the fourth time in the last five races.
The second round race took place during the hottest part of the day. Bartone smoked the tires just off the starting line and his weekend ended in the quarterfinals in a cloud of smoke.
"The team did a great job once again this weekend," Bartone commented following eliminations. "I want to thank Casavant Mining, Lucas Oil, Superwinch, Craftsman, Gates Belts and Hose, Cabo Wabo and SOOoo Good International for their excellent support of the Jim Dunn Racing team," Bartone said. "We could'nt be out here racing at this level without all of their support."
