Country music star Lee Roy Parnell joins Jim Dunn Racing in Memphis
MEMPHIS: Legendary country musician, Lee Roy Parnell, will join the Jim Dunn Racing team this weekend at the 18th annual O'Reilly Mid-South Nationals presented by Pennzoil at Memphis Motorsports Park in Millington, Tennessee. Parnell will sing the national anthem prior to the beginning of eliminations and then take in the action with the Jim Dunn team.
Grammy-nominated Parnell is among the elite few who can be identified as a musical triple threat: an ace guitarist as well as a distinctive singer and hit songwriter. His diverse music runs the gamut from blue-eyed soul to delta blues, roadhouse rock, Southern boogie, Texas swing and gospel. He has earned the respect of both fans and industry veterans alike with his soulful vocals and award-winning guitar playing. Parnell's seven releases during his 30-year career have netted the fifth generation Texan a string of Top 10 hits and also earned him the Star of Texas award for his preservation of Texas music. Parnell also has the honor of having his own signature guitar, a Gibson ES-336, and he still uses the same 1956 Gibson Les Paul Goldtop that he has owned since he was 15 years old. Now 48, the veteran performer's last release was 2001's Tell the Truth on Vanguard Records. Parnell's current tour will make a stop in Nashville on September 3rd.
Parnell's name will be proudly riding on the Dunn's Got CMKX?/Lucas Oil/SOOoo Good International Monte Carlo throughout the weekend in Memphis. The multi-talented guitarist, singer and songwriter will join driver Tony Bartone and the team in the Got CMKX?/Lucas Oil pit area, where he will be available to sign autographs and greet fans.
"I have been a fan of Parnell and his music for years," said Jim Dunn. "We're very excited that he will be part of the team in Memphis. I know the fans will enjoy his rendition of our national anthem."
