Mountain Province Mining Inc — Mini-bulk sample a success; Planning for a large underground bulk sample started
ONTARIO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 26, 1996--Mountain Province Mining Inc. is pleased to report that processing of the remaining 79 tonnes, of the total 104 tonne mini-bulk sample, by Canamera Geological Ltd.'s Dense Media Separation plant (DMS) has been completed and is considered to be a success.
Diamonds were recovered from all 42 bulk sample drill holes, which were spaced in such a way to uniformly cover the entire surface area of the pipe. As a result, planning for a feasibility study of the 5034 pipe has commenced. It is anticipated that this will include a 10,000 tonne underground bulk sample to provide a large enough quantity of diamonds for evaluation purposes. It is expected that underground operations will start in the spring of 1997. In addition, a aggressive exploration program will continue for the next several months.
The processing of the remaining 79 tonnes of kimberlite was accelerated by not doing a final crush of the ore. This meant that a large fraction of the 1 to approximately 3 mm diamonds were not recovered from the kimberlite chips, that were up to a centimeter in size. The acceleration of the processing saved both time and money. The main purpose of the mini-bulk sample was to determine if it is warranted to proceed to the underground bulk sample and not to recover all the diamonds. The key aspects of the mini-bulk sample were to determine if a sufficient grade (carats/tonne) of diamonds, uniformly spaced, is present, including the presence of larger stones and a representative number of quality stones. These key conditions have all been met, making the bulk sample a success.
Diamonds with a weight of 257 carats were recovered from a total of 104 tonnes of processed kimberlite for a recoverable grade of 2.48 carats per tonne. As expected, this is lower than the 3.09 carats per tonne for the first 25 tonnes, which did undergo a final crush. The grade of the diamonds greater than 2 mm in the largest dimension is 2.16 carats per tonne. There were 3 diamonds over 2 carats, 8 diamonds equal to or greater than 1.5 carats, 43 diamonds over 0.50 carats and 556 diamonds over 0.10 carats. The largest diamond is 2.88 carats and four the the largest 8 stones are of gem quality. A value for the diamonds will be determined by several diamantaires and will be reported as soon as the information is available.
An extensive exploration program, involving the expenditure of approximately C$4 million, will continue for the next several months. Approximately 1,000 heavy indicator mineral till samples will have been collected by the end of September from five different areas on the AK claim group and 335 samples from the CJ claim group to better define drilling targets. It is anticipated that up to 15 land-based targets will be drilled on the AK and up to 5 on the CJ claims this fall. Lake-based targets will be drilled this winter.
Planning for the underground bulk sample has started with the filing of applications for the initial permits and with the work on environmental issues.
The AK and CJ properties are held 50 percent by Mountain Province, 40 percent by Glenmore Highlands Inc. (ASE:GMH) and 10 percent by Camphor Ventures (VSE:CFV). -0- On behalf of the board of Mountain Province Mining Inc.
