Great Western Diamonds Corp.: Work Commences at Candle Lake
1/10/2006 4:16:17 PM
SASKATOON, Saskatchewan, Jan 10, 2006 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Great Western Diamonds Corp (CA:GWD): The Company reports that the 2005/2006 winter work program has commenced at the 100%-owned Candle Lake diamond project in central Saskatchewan. Crews are currently preparing access roads and drill pads at both of the project's diamond-bearing kimberlites, C28 and C29/30, in advance of drilling.
Work plans include drilling 5 delineation holes on C28 and up to 20 delineation drill holes on C29/30. The core will be a combination of HQ-size (2.5 inches diameter) and PQ-size (3.35 inches diameter), and will be analyzed using the comprehensive logging and sampling protocol developed by the Company's consultants, Mineral Services Canada Inc.
The Candle Lake kimberlites are located at the northern end of the Fort a la Corne kimberlite field, where recent exploration and development work by others at Fort a la Corne, has demonstrated the economic potential of Saskatchewan kimberlites.
In past drilling, both C28 and C29/30 have produced grades (extrapolated from core samples) in excess of 20 carats per 100 tonnes from several drill holes, with higher grade intervals within the holes. Since these results are similar to results at Fort a la Corne at the same stage of exploration, there is a solid basis for optimism in continued positive results as exploration and development work advances.
