Arend's strong, consistent performance continues as the CMKX team enters Englishtown
ENGLISHTOWN, pre-race: Jeff Arend continued his march toward the top 10 in the NHRA POWERade point standings after a solid semifinal finish in Chicago last weekend. Now the driver of the CMKXtreme Machine Funny Car has his sights set on another strong performance at this weekend's 36th annual NHRA K&N Filters SuperNationals at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park in Englishtown, New Jersey.
With his second semifinal finish of the season, Arend moved up to the No. 12 position in the season long NHRA championship point's chase, less than two round victories out of the top 10. Crew chief Paul Smith and the diligent CMKXtreme crew had Arend's Monte Carlo running in the 4.80's throughout eliminations in Chicago. Arend also did his job in the thingypit, leaving the starting line first on every driver he raced against on Sunday.
Arend will seek to make up more ground on his Funny Car competitors in Englishtown, a track where Paul Smith has tuned his car into the winner's circle in the past. With the CMKXtreme Machine running as consistently as it has been all season, Arend hopes to earn his second career NHRA national event victory in the Garden State.
"Paul Smith and Ronnie Thompson really have a good handle on the tune up right now," said Arend. "We know we can get the CMKXtreme Machine to run even quicker, but we don't want to lose our consistency. The Monte Carlo is definitely capable of running in the 4.70's, given the right conditions, and Englishtown is known for record-setting performances."
