Arend and CMKXtreme Machine team confident heading into the second half of the NHRA season
DENVER, pre-race: Jeff Arend's 2005 drag racing season has proven to be a huge improvement over the struggles and hard luck his team endured last year. The driver of the CMKXtreme Machine Monte Carlo Funny Car has turned things around with the help of veteran crew chief Paul Smith, improved parts, newer equipment and a hard working team of crewman all working with the same winning determination.
As the 2005 POWERade NHRA Drag Racing Series reaches the halfway point, the teams are preparing for the grueling western swing, which features three national events over three consecutive weekends, traveling to Denver, Seattle, and Sonoma. Arend and the CMKXtreme Machine team realize that if they are to make a move into the POWERade Top 10 they will need a strong showing during the three-race western tour.
"Right now we are sitting 12th in the NHRA POWERade point standings and that's a big improvement over last season at this time," said Arend, who's starting line statistics rank top in the Funny Car class. "Paul Smith and the entire CMKX crew have been working extremely hard to keep up with all of the other multi-car teams. The fact that we've already reached a final and have been advancing rounds on a regular basis with just one car shows that this team has the potential for great success. We expect to keep improving at each event and our goal is still a Top 10 finish and a national event victory by the seasons end."
"I would like to extend a special thank you to Paul Smith and CMKX crewmembers Michael Hennessey and Randy Carmichael for all of their hard work. They've been with this deal since the very beginning last season and it's their tireless effort and perseverance that has helped our team become a consistent threat."
