Bartone was matched up against Tony Pedregon in round two. The New York native left the starting line first with a .071 reaction time and never looked back, thundering into the semifinals with a 4.941 at 313.29 mph.
The Funny Car semifinal featured a battle of former Alcohol Funny Car drivers, Bartone against Gary Scelzi. Both cars left the starting line together but Bartone slowed to a blower back firing 5.007 at 293.28 mph and Scelzi took the win.
"Jim Dunn and crew on the Got CMKX?/Lucas Oil Funny Car gave me a great race car this weekend," commented Bartone. "We qualified well and we won a few rounds. We had a mechanical snafu with the motor during the semifinals but otherwise we had a good race. I'm happy with our performance, and all around it was very good weekend for our team."
