Sammy Hagar joins Jim Dunn Racing/Got CMKX?/Lucas Oil team in Sonoma
SONOMA, qualifying: Tony Bartone gave rocker Sammy Hagar the ultimate Cabo Wabo experience on Saturday at the 18th annual Fram Autolite NHRA Nationals at Infineon Raceway. Bartone blasted to a 4.859 at 318.69 mph to lock down the No. 9 qualifying position with Hagar standing on the starting line in sheer amazement.
Hagar is the owner Cabo Wabo Tequila, a sponsor of the Jim Dunn Racing/Got CMKX?/Lucas Oil Funny Car. The Red Rocker was on hand in Sonoma with his wife Kari to show his support for the team. After experiencing Bartone's 4.85 from the starting line Hagar was blown away.
"That was amazing, what a rush," said Hagar after the run. "I'm hooked. You're going to see me at every race. Jim Dunn is a drag racing legend and it's an honor to be associated with the team. I had a blast today."
The fourth qualifying round was run under conditions that will be very similar to what the team will see on race day. The 318-mph run was the fastest of the final session.
"We're ready for race day," said Bartone after qualifying. "We have a good warm weather tune-up in the Got CMKX?/Lucas Oil Funny Car and it feels sooo good."
