Bartone looking to continue to win rounds in Memphis
MEMPHIS, pre-race: Tony Bartone will be looking to continue his round winning ways this weekend at the 18th annual O'Reilly Mid-South Nationals at Memphis Motorsports Park. The driver of the Got CMKX?/Lucas Oil/SOOoo Good International Funny Car has enjoyed one semifinal and two quarterfinal appearances in his last three races and during his run has moved from 15th to 13th in the POWERade point standings.
Crew chief and car owner Jim Dunn has had the Got CMKX?/Lucas Oil Monte Carlo running strong since the race in Englishtown in mid-June. Over the six races since then, Bartone has reached the semifinals once, the quarterfinals three times and equaled his best qualifying effort of the year. Bartone advanced to final round in Las Vegas earlier this season and the former winner of 28 national events in Top Alcohol Funny Car and Alcohol Dragster can sense another victory just around the corner.
"Jim Dunn and the crew have provided me with a consistent race car and that gives you plenty of confidence behind the wheel," Bartone said. "The Got CMKX?/Lucas Oil/SOOoo Good International Funny Car has been running stronger at every race. I know if we keep our heads down and do our jobs to the best of our ability that it won't be long until you see our team in the winner's circle."
As an added bonus for the race in Memphis, the Jim Dunn Racing team will be joined by country star, Lee Roy Parnell, on Sunday. The Grammy-nominated Parnell will sing the national anthem prior to eliminations and then hang out in the pit area with Bartone and the Jim Dunn team.
