Fortune Minerals announces addition of James Excell & Garett Macdonald to management team

LONDON, ON, April 12 /CNW/ - George Doumet, Chairman of the Board of Fortune Minerals Limited (TSX-FT) is pleased to announce appointments to management that add significant strength in engineering and mine operations at a critical period in the Company's history. James Excell, a metallurgical engineer with more than 30 years of senior executive, mine management and process engineering experience with BHP Billiton, has joined Fortune's board of directors, subject to regulatory approval, and will also act as a special advisor to Fortune in supervising feasibility and permitting work. Garett Macdonald is a mining engineer with more than 10 years of experience with companies including Placer Dome Canada Ltd. and Suncor Energy Inc. and becomes Fortune's Engineering Manager. As bankable feasibility studies near completion on its Mount Klappan anthracite coal project in northwest British Columbia and NICO cobalt-gold-bismuth deposit in the Northwest Territories, "these strategic appointments position the Company to achieve the transition into a successful producer" states Robin Goad, President of Fortune.

Jim Excell is President of Narego Solutions Inc., a consulting company to the mining industry, and also serves as Chairman of BHP Billiton Diamonds Inc. and a director of North American Palladium Inc. During an impressive career spanning more than three decades with BHP Billiton in Canada and internationally, Jim has managed and developed some of the world's premier mining projects. He led the construction, commissioning and subsequent operation of the $700 million development of the Ekati Diamond Mine in the Northwest Territories, and later became President and Chief Operating Officer of BHP Billiton Diamonds Inc. Before returning to university, he held various engineering and operations positions with Suncor Energy Inc. at its oil sands operations in Fort McMurray, Alberta. Garett was also employed as an engineer for Placer Dome Canada Ltd. where he worked at the Campbell and Dome gold mines in Ontario. He also has engineering and related experience working for Teck Corporation's Quintette coal mine in British Columbia, as well as two aggregate operations in Ontario. Garett brings relevant experience to Fortune's diverse assets and will be responsible for managing the Company's engineering projects and execution of development work.
