--- Natural Color Diamond Interest Expands
Christian Hanssen, marketing manager of Rio Tinto Diamonds, presented the Natural Color & Champagne Diamond Study results at BaselWorld. Results suggested a large, untapped market for natural color diamonds, and the interest in this category was strong at 58.8 percent.
Self-purchases, which are the primary route to champagne color jewelry, accounted for 56 percent, an increase of 4 percent from 2003. IGI, represented by CEO Roland Lorié, introduced objectives for a Natural Color Certificate, which is under review to simplify for average consumers. The certificate will measure the presence of color (in contrast with D-Z system, which measures absence of color) with emphasis upon prime color groups, giving natural the highest priority.
It will also use scientifically accurate, common names to describe the colors including terms as; faint to vivid, and from the most widely spread to the rarest.
