Diagem International Resource Corp. (“Diagem”) is pleased to announce that KWG Resources Inc. (“KWG”), in which it holds a 38.9% interest, and KWG’s joint venture partner, Spider Resources Inc. (“Spider”), report the recovery of 167 diamonds from twelve (15 kilogram) regional rock samples, of these one sample yielded 59 diamonds including 22 macrodiamonds (macrodiamond defined as having one dimension greater than 0.5mm.). The results further confirm the presence of two additional diamond bearing volcanic centers, thus bringing the total number of diamond bearing volcanic centers identified on the property to five. To date, the joint venture has recovered a total of 639 diamonds from this project that include 68 macrodiamonds and 13 commercial size diamonds (one dimension > 1.0 mm).
An initial twenty-five results, from a total of 53 regional rock samples that were selected during the April- May 2002 program, have been received from the Kennecott Canada Exploration laboratory in Thunder Bay, Ontario. This lab uses caustic dissolution to liberate the diamonds, only 15 kg., representative of each of the samples was processed at this time. All samples were selected based upon the geological textures and proximity to mapped volcanic centers within the Spider/KWG jointly held 45 square kilometre Wawa diamond property, located astride the Trans-Canada highway 34 kilometers north of Wawa, Ontario.
Twelve of the initial twenty-five samples that were processed have tested positive with respect to diamond content. Of these twelve, one sample yielded 59 diamonds, including 22 macrodiamonds, while another sample yielded 33 diamonds, 7 of which are macrodiamonds. The following table summarizes the results received to date:
Sample weight
(kg) # micros # macros total ratio
(diamonds/kg)
Men 162 15 14 1 15 1
Men 166 15 3 2 5 0.33
Men 167 15 37 22 59 3.93
Lal 153 15 19 0 19 1.27
Lal 174 15 17 0 17 1.13
Lal 191 15 12 1 13 0.87
Lal 145 15 1 0 1 0.07
Lal 146 15 26 7 33 2.20
Lal 168 15 1 0 1 0.07
Lal 170 15 3 0 3 0.20
Lal 178 15 2 1 1 0.07
Lal 190 15 1 0 1 0.07
These recent results have confirmed that rock samples selected from or nearby geologically interpreted volcanic centers contain abnormally high content of diamond (1 diamond per kg. of rock is considered high at this phase of exploration) Additional regional rock sample results are pending at the Kennecott lab, while the results of 5 mini-bulk samples ( 2.5 tonnes each ) taken during the same spring 2002 exploration program are pending at Lakefield Research laboratory in Lakefield, Ontario.
KWG and Spider are currently planning a follow-up exploration program that includes systematic bulk sampling of the five aforementioned diamond bearing volcanic centers. This program is scheduled to take place during the late summer or early fall of 2002. Furthermore, the next exploration phase will be designed to expand upon the geologic/economic potential and knowledge gained on is project area, that to date has been the subject of four separate exploration campaigns by KWG and Spider dating back to February of 1996. Applicable exploration expenditures on this project have totalled in excess of $1.5 million, since the joint venture identified, acquired and pioneered the diamond exploration on this prospective area.
KWG has 69,634,583 common shares issued and outstanding.
