DIAGEM is pleased to announce the results for week six of commercial mining operations carried out under an 'experimental mining'permit on the Fazenda Chicoria Diamondiferous Gravel Resource Block #1, in the Juina Diamond Province, State of Mato Grosso, Brazil.
962 diamonds were recovered for a total of 334.22 carats, including 55 diamonds between 1 and 5 carats and 2 diamonds between 5 and 10 carats. The average diamond size was 0.35 carats (week 5, 0.27 carats). It is worth mentioning that one of these, a 6.04 carat stone, is a particularly fine gem diamond. 1,243 cubic metres of material were processed during the week providing a grade of 0.27 carats per cubic metre, as per week 5.
In the first six weeks since start up; the main processing plant, on a sustained basis, has achieved its planned operating capacity, and the average grade of material has fulfilled expectations. Having accomplished this, the next undertaking is to upgrade certain aspects of the ancillary equipment, prior to introducing a second shift. Each of these steps will lead to incrementally higher levels of production. Prospecting operations for additional diamondiferous gravel resources have been fully resumed after a six-week stoppage in order to concentrate all efforts towards a successful initiation of regular production.
