SHORE GOLD ANNOUNCES COMPLETION OF LARGE DIAMETER DRILL HOLE KIMBERLITE PROCESSING TO START TODAY
Jonathan Challis, President, is pleased to report that the large diameter (24”) drill hole, Star 031RC that was announced on October 15 th was completed on the Star kimberlite property on October 27 th . A total of approximately 90 tonnes of wet kimberlite chips were recovered using a 1.2 mm screen size from a continuous kimberlite interval of approximately 200 metres. Star 031RC represents the deepest 24” diameter hole ever drilled in the Fort a la Corne area. The hole was located close to Star 026 that had intersected 236 metres of kimberlite. As a result of mechanical difficulties with the drill rig, the hole was terminated at a depth of 296.5 metres while still in kimberlite.
Processing of the sample started today at the De Beers Canada Exploration IncÕs Grande Prairie facility to produce a Dense Media Separator (DMS) concentrate. This process is expected to take approximately 2 weeks and will be monitored both by ShoreÕs own personnel and also by a representative from ACA Howe International Limited, an independent geological and mining consulting firm. The DMS concentrate will be split in half in order to test two different methods of diamond recovery: one half will be sent to De Beers Geological Sample Processing Services (GSPS) laboratory in Johannesburg where diamond recovery will be undertaken using a 32 channel X-ray sorter; the other half will be sent to Lakefield Research Limited in Ontario where diamond recovery will be completed using grease tables. In both cases, the final concentrate will be hand sorted. The results from the processing of this sample will help evaluate the properties of both the kimberlite and the specific characteristics of the diamonds. These properties and characteristics need to be ascertained prior to finalizing the design of a bulk sample treatment plant that would be needed to process a 25,000 tonne bulk sample, required to determine the economic potential of the Star Kimberlite.
