BEST KIMBERLITE INTERSECTION TO DATE AT CANDLE LAKE
Neil Yingling, President, is pleased to report that WSL-10, the third drill hole of the Company's 2002 work program on Pipe 29/30 of the Candle Lake diamond project, has been completed intersecting 107 m of kimberlite. This is the thickest kimberlite intersection to date on 29/30, surpassing the 104 m intersected in WSL-5 located 750 m to the northwest.
WSL-10 was collared in the sparsely-drilled southeast portion of Pipe 29/30. The limited drilling carried out to date defines the kimberlite as measuring 1.35 km in length and 0.6 km in width with previous tonnage estimates in excess of 60 million tonnes of kimberlite.
Grade projections from diamonds recovered in 1994/95 drilling give values of 18, 21 and 27 carats per 100 tonnes in the best three drill holes. Geochemical comparisons with other kimberlite bodies in Saskatchewan rank Pipe 29/30 among the best in terms of G10 garnet frequency and indicator minerals plotting within the diamond inclusion field.
Samples from the 2002 drilling are being shipped to the Saskatchewan Research Council laboratory in Saskatoon for processing by caustic dissolution.
The Company has now incurred expenditures sufficient to meet its work commitment under the joint venture agreement (GWG 80%) with War Eagle Mining Company Inc., and the next phase of definition drilling is scheduled to resume after freeze-up, likely in January 2003.
