12/8/2004 : CMKXtreme 2005 Sneak Peak
Canada's Jeff Arend, who returned to NHRA's fuel Funny Car wars during 2004, will up the anti next season when he takes the wheel of the all new CMKX-treme Chevy Monte Carlo. Jeff provided DragRaceCanada with this exclusive early preview...
Arend, who now resides in San Dimas, California, was in Indianapolis recently where he was outfitted with a new Murf McKinney chassis which will be clad with a spanking new 2005 Chevrolet Monte Carlo body. All of that is thanks to continued sponsorship from fellow Canadian Saskatchewan's Urban Casavant, who's CMKX company presence was one of the top NHRA news stories this past season.
Arend is very excited about the ongoing and now enhanced venture, which will allow him for the first time in his career to race an entire 23-event NHRA POWERade drag racing schedule.
"Last year we had a good time and did pretty well considering what we had," reflected Jeff, who became Canada's all-time fastest drag racer during the season. "Despite some limitations we were able to advance as a team and in performance. I'm pleased that Urban has renewed with us again for next season. We have a new Murf McKinney car being built and that will be outfitted with the new Chevy Monte Carlo body. I'd have to imagine that the new chassis and the better aerodynamics should be good for 4 or 5/100ths. All else being equal -- that would put us in the middle of most FC programs."
Arend and his crew chief Paul Smith will also have a closer team association with Jim Dunn and Tony Bartone next season. In a parallel move CMKX has inked Dunn's team to major sponsorship as well for 2005.
"While we are not technically a 2-car team -- there will a closer association between us and we will share knowledge back and forth," Jeff revealed. "We will park our rigs together and share hospitality. Together I think both teams will be better as a result."
Arend also confirmed that for the first time in his career he will be able to do some pre-season testing.
"Last year we put the whole team together in about 2-weeks and started the season late," Jeff added. "This time we have two months to work with which will put us well ahead of last year. Our season objective will be for a top ten finish in NHRA points."
