Bartone looking for a solid performance at the Sears Craftsman Nationals
ST. LOUIS, pre-race: Tony Bartone will be looking for another solid performance this weekend at the 9th annual Sears Craftsman NHRA Nationals at Gateway International Raceway. The driver of the Jim Dunn Racing/Got CMKX?/Lucas Oil Monte Carlo Funny Car heads to St. Louis after making five consistent runs in Englishtown, culminating in a career-best elapsed time for Bartone.
The Got CMKX?/Lucas Oil Funny Car may have been the most consistent race car on the property in Englishtown one week ago. Bartone made qualifying runs of 4.89, 4.86, 4.88 and 4.90 before blasting to the quickest run of his career, a 4.822 during the first round of eliminations. Now Bartone and the Jim Dunn Racing team hope to build on their momentum at the Sears Craftsman Nationals.
"Jim Dunn and the entire crew gave me an awesome race car to drive in Englishtown," said Bartone. "The Got CMKX?/Lucas Oil Funny Car is running very consistent and we hope to continue that trend in St. Louis. This is a big race for our team with Craftsman as one of our major associate sponsors. We really want to put on a good show for them and all the CMKX Racing fans. Racing at night will be a magnificent experience for everyone."
Gateway Classic Cars will celebrate their fifth consecutive year as an associate sponsor with the Jim Dunn Racing for the St. Louis event. "We really look forward to the Sears Craftsman Nationals," said owner Sal Akbani, "it is always an exciting time of year for us." Jim Dunn added, "We appreciate the support we get from every year Gateway Classic Cars when we visit St. Louis. I love to check out their collection of muscle cars, hot rods and classic cars."
Bartone will kick off his weekend by joining CMKX teammates Jeff Arend and Connie Cohen as they visit with children at the St. Louis Shriners Hospital on Friday.
