Kensington Resources Ltd. - De Beers Set For Diamond Recovery - Fort A La Corne DMS Concentrates In South Africa
VANCOUVER, B.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 29, 2000
FORM 20-F FILE #0-24980
Kensington Resources Ltd. (CDNX:KRT.) and its partners, De Beers, Cameco, and UEM Inc. are pleased to announce completion of the initial processing of kimberlite from the Fort A la Corne Joint Venture Drilling Program carried out during August to October this year.
A total of 541.1 tonnes of kimberlite was excavated from 5 very large diameter drillholes (24 inch), as determined from borehole caliper measurements; this new total represents an increase over the previously reported preliminary figure of 517.9 tonnes, which was based on calculations of theoretical excavated mass. Of this total, 283.7 tonnes of kimberlite were retained after being screened to over one millimeter (+1.0mm) and then processed at the De Beers DMS (dense media separation) plant at Grande Prairie Alberta. DMS processing produced 3,963.7 kg of heavy mineral concentrates that were received at De Beers facilities in Johannesburg, South Africa for diamond recovery late last week. MPH Consulting South Africa (Pty) Ltd. is contracted to independently audit diamond recovery procedures for the Fort A la Corne joint venture concentrates. Diamond recovery will commence shortly and results are expected by the end of January 2001.
In addition, 1,489 kg of representative kimberlite chips were extracted in 92 samples for diamond recovery using caustic dissolution techniques by Kimberley Acid Laboratories (De Beers) in South Africa. Twenty-nine of these samples amounting to 295 kg were submitted to Lakefield Research Limited for corroborative testing. Recovery of microdiamonds (and macros) from this processing will contribute to refinement of grade forecasts for the kimberlite bodies. The results from both labs will be released when received.
The Fort A la Corne Diamond Project is a joint venture among DeBeers Canada Exploration Inc. a wholly owned subsidiary of DeBeers (DBRSY-Q) (38%), Kensington Resources Ltd., (KRT-CDNX;KNSRF-L) (38%), Cameco Corporation (CCO-TM;CCJ-DNQX;CMECF-L) (14%), UEM Inc. (10%). The Fort A la Corne kimberlite cluster is one of the largest clusters in the world containing 71 kimberlite bodies.
