Kensington Resources Ltd.: Seven Coreholes Completed at Fort a la Corne Diamond Project
VICTORIA, British Columbia--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 18, 2002
Kensington Resources Ltd. (TSX VENTURE:KRT)(the "Company") is pleased to announce the completion of seven NQ coreholes (diameter of 1.875 inches or 47 mm) located on kimberlite 141/140. The first phase of the CDN $5.2 million program for 2002 consists of up to 25 coreholes targeting the centre of body 141 and the southern part of body 140. Both kimberlite bodies contain significant thicknesses of highly prospective kimberlite which have recently been understood by geological modeling to form a single body.
A total of 1,001.48 metres of kimberlite were intersected from a combined metreage of 1,812.3 metres that includes overburden and bedrock. Two of the drillholes intersected exceptional thicknesses of kimberlite: 234.53 metres (approx. 770 feet) and 167.2 metres (approx. 550 feet). Table 1 below shows drilling progress to date:

Corehole drilling is being used to determine the best placement for the large diameter drillholes for minibulk sampling in the second phase of the program. The eight large diameter drillholes (three 36" holes and five 24" holes) will provide additional carats to increase the level of confidence in grade forecasts, valuations and revenue modeling by De Beers on behalf of the joint venture partners. Currently, a specialized rig from Central Caissons of Saskatoon has mobilized onsite and is installing 42 inch surface casing to an average depth of 32 metres in preparation for deeper sampling in kimberlite utilizing air-assist, mud-flood, reverse circulation drilling by Layne-Christensen for the very large diameter holes.
The Fort a la Corne Diamond Project is a joint venture among Kensington Resources Ltd. (42.25%), De Beers Canada Exploration Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of De Beers (42.25%), Cameco Corporation (5.5%) and UEM Inc. (carried 10%). The 71+ kimberlite bodies of the Fort a la Corne Field form one of the largest diamondiferous clusters in the world.
